Give me a log cabin, a cast iron stove, and the sound of wind in the pines—I'll trade you the world.”
Frontier saying

A rustic warm comfortable wooden long house cabin lodge with in a wide open Montana field under a cloudy sky.

Our hunting focuses primarily on elk, though the area also supports excellent deer populations and large herds of antelope (pronghorn). Many elk hunters choose to add a whitetail, mule deer, antelope, or even waterfowl and upland birds to their trip. Pronghorn herds here are especially strong, and guests will likely encounter multiple trophy-quality animals.

This is a general license area for elk and deer, and one of the easiest regions in Montana to draw an antelope tag—making it an ideal location for a combination hunt for those looking to pursue multiple species in a single trip. Most hunts are conducted using spot-and-stalk. During archery elk season, guides often employ calling techniques to draw bulls into range. For antelope, decoys and calls are common during the bow season, and during the rut, we may also rattle in a mature whitetail buck.

Because our lands and leases cover a large area, vehicles are typically used to reach prime hunting locations, after which hunts are conducted on foot to maximize stealth and opportunity.

Our Musselshell Lodge sits in the heart of central Montana near the small town of Martinsdale, nestled between the Little Belt, Castle, and Crazy Mountain ranges. By highway, we’re roughly 120 miles northwest of Billings, about the same distance northeast from Bozeman, and southeast from Helena. We lease hunting rights on large tracts of private farmland and forest, as well as state lands. It’s not uncommon for hunters to spot multiple big game species in a single day—or over the course of a single hunt.

The surrounding habitat is a diverse mix of foothill benches, prairie grasslands, grainfields, and hayfields, interspersed with creek and river bottoms. Elevation ranges from 3,500 to 6,000 feet. While this isn’t a mountain hunt, the terrain will still keep your heart pumping and your senses engaged.

Great comfortable lodge for guided hunts with private bathrooms and hot showers.

At this camp, guests will enjoy a stay in our rustic hunting lodge, a building that once served as the dining hall for the local Hutterite Colony. Today, it offers a warm welcome and an unmatched view of the Little Belt and Castle Mountains. The lodge is solid, well-insulated, and spacious. Heat is provided by propane and a wood-burning stove, while a solar system powers the water pump and lights. When additional electricity is needed, we operate Honda generators. Wi-Fi and satellite TV are available for guests’ convenience. Because the lodge sits beneath a hill, cell phone service can be inconsistent; however, excellent reception is available nearby and on most of the adjacent ranchland where hunts take place.

Inside, the lodge features three newly renovated guest bedrooms, each with a private bath. Each room sleeps two guests in extra-long twin beds, with all bedding provided. Meals are a highlight of the stay. Hot, hearty breakfasts fuel the day ahead, while suppers are served family-style in the dining room. Lunches are either packed for the field or enjoyed back at the lodge, depending on the day’s hunting schedule. Our team typically operates with 2–4 guides and a cook, accommodating up to eight hunters at a time—often fewer—to ensure a comfortable and personalized experience.
